MACARIO M. OFILADA was born in Manila in 1971. He obtained his doctorate in philosophy, with the highest honors, from the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain in 1996. He is the youngest numerary member ever of the Academia Filipina de la Lengua Espanola, where he currently serves as Acting Secretary. He is also a corresponding member of the Real Academia Espanola. He is the author of five critically acclaimed books and hundreds of articles and reviews, published in Philippine and European Journals on Philosophy, Theology, Literary Criticism, Aesthetics, History and Spanish Philology. A linguist, he is also a music critic with years of musical formation, especially in piano, voice and choral conducting, under his aunt National Artist for Music Andrea Ofilada Veneracion and other respected teachers. Presently, he is a professor at the Instituto Cervantes de Manila and guest professor in several institutions in the graduate level.
